JSY at Shija Hospitals

The management of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute is happy to announce that Shija Hospitals, Langol is recognised by District Health Mission Society, Imphal East and West Districts for Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY).

Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is an initiative under National Rural Health Mission with an objective to reduce maternal and neo- natal mortality by promoting hospital delivery.

Expectant mothers from Imphal East and West districts preferring to undergo delivery at Shija Hospitals is entitled to cash assistance of Rs. 700/- per delivery.

Vitrectomy at Shija Hospitals
For the first time in Manipur, a combined surgical procedure of cataract surgery with removal of vitreous hemorrhage (known as Vitrectomy) and application of laser was performed successfully at the Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol.
The surgery was successfully performed on a 67 year old woman who went blind due to diabetic retinopathy on April 22 last, said Dr. Kh Palin, managing director of the institute said today in a press conference.
Dr Palin said the woman was first diagnosed to be suffering from proliferation retinopathy, PDR with high risk characteristics, HRC which needed photocoagulation by laser and scattered laser and then performed scattered laser surgery.
The disease is common amongst diabetic patients and most went outside the state for treatment as the sophisticated facilities needed for the surgery were unavailable in the state.
The facility is now available at the Shija Eye Care Foundation, a branch of the Shija Hospital and Research Institute, said Palin while announcing that with the opening of this advance unit, free treatment to the eye patients will be provided henceforth.
He also announced that the institute is also planning to open an eye care centre in one of the nine districts of the state.
He also said that Shija Hospitals has successfully conducted surgery with laser so far on 50 patients.
The state has around 32,000 blind people. Most of them become blind due to cataract problem, Palin observed while stating that there was intimation of the directorate of health services for the involvement of private sectors in the taking up eye care in the state.
India has 9 million blind people which is the highest in the world.
Shija is considering for opening an eye bank. So concerning with the eye donation will start soon, he added.
The Shija Eye Foundation has now the care facilities of sutureless cataract surgery (SICS and Phaco emulsification, Oculoplastic surgeries, visual field analysis, FFA, Fundus Flourencient Angiography), laser surgeries for retina for the first time in Manipur, cryopexy, retina detachment surgery and vitrectomy for vitreo-retinal diseases for the first time in Manipur.

Path Breaking Key Hole Surgery

Management at Shija Hospitals, Langol is happy to inform the general public of the region that Dr. Jugindra S., Medical Superintendent and Consultant Minimal Access Surgeon, Shija Hospitals was awarded with the prestigious FMAS (Fellow of Minimal Access Surgeon) certificate at Mumbai by AMASI (Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India) the largest association of minimal access surgeons, under AEGIS of ASI (Association of Surgeons of India.) recognizing his contribution to the art of minimal access surgery in the country and selected as a teaching faculty member at National level. Apart from certain general operations, he is instrumental in bringing many endoscopic (including ERCP), advanced laparoscopic surgeries, and advanced minimal access urology procedures (PCNL, URS, CLT, TURP, etc) and DG-HAL (Doppler Guided Haemorrhoidal Artery Ligation) to this region.

Shija Hospitals has also joined a few select groups of hospitals in the country by successfully performing for the first time in Eastern India removal of gall bladder through a single hole at the umbilicus as compared to four key-hole sites done usually. This was done on 29th May 2009 by a team of surgeons and paramedics led by Dr Jugindra S on a 67 years old lady who was discharged the next day.

Blood Donation Camp

To commemorate with World Blood Donor Day which falls on 14th June, a one day blood donation camp was be held at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol on 16th June 2009 from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. with collaboration with Blood Bank, JN Hospital, Porompat.

"Millions of people owe their lives to people they will never meet - people who donate their blood voluntarily and without any reward". It is to these unsung heroes that World Blood Donor Day is dedicated.

The joint organizing committee would like to appreciate and thank for voluntary participation by everyone.
