SINGLE INCISION LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY (SILS)
~One Step Ahead~

Shija Hospitals and Research Institute ( SHRI ) is the pioneer of Minimal access Surgery  in Manipur. Since 1996, SHRI has been successfully practising highly advanced minimal access surgeries (laparoscopic surgeries) with a high success rate till date in Manipur.
Now, SHRI is introducing Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) in Manipur for the first time. Already 9 SILS cases have been successfully done so far. The youngest among the patients was a 12 years old girl.
Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) is an advanced minimally invasive surgical procedure in which the surgeon operates almost exclusively through a single entry point, typically the patient’s navel. It was first performed for the treatment of acute appendicitis in the department of pediatric surgery in Turkey in 2005.
It is now possible to do SILS to remove gall bladder, appendix, ovary, uterus, kidney etc. Many other sophisticated surgeries within the abdomen are now possible through this single hole surgery.
Some of the various advantages of SILS over conventional multiport laparoscopic surgery are:

•    No visible scar like a traditional multi-port laparoscopic approach
•    Less post-operative pain,
•    Less blood loss.
•    Faster recovery time
•    Earlier return to work
•    Better cosmetic results
